This is a book inspired by the saying “Never Judge a Book by its Cover.” I was 24 yrs old at the time of making it, there are 23 bindings & pages representing every year of my life. Up until this point, I was a very guarded person, to a lesser extent I still am. It’s said that we make up our minds about a person within the first 30 seconds, so I placed the pages of the book on the outside, with the binding visible to show why I am, the way I am.
I chose the colour turquoise as it’s the colour of the once famous Aston Bridge in Queensferry, North Wales, & a place for 22yrs I considered to be my home. The colour & binding express how I felt/feel “Bound” by certain experiences. The first 4yrs of my life are represented by white bindings, naivety/innocence, when my parents moved my life changed, hence the binding changing. The one Yellow Binding represented one of the happiest times in my life.
The colour yellow is used for the cover of the book, representing the 22/23rd yrs of my life, with the word ‘RUN!’ written inside. There is also a red thread, running through the centre of the book, this represents an experience that will be entwined with me forever, one that I have not allowed to bind me.
